Federal Financial Aid Increases Coming from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act:

    The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 was signed into law by President Obama on February 17, 2009. To learn about economic stimulus efforts affecting college financial aid (federal Pell Grant and college work-study), Click here.

Congressman Peter DeFazio Scholarship to Benefit Dislocated Workers Deadline to apply is March 1, 2010
Since 1991, Oregon’s 4th District Congressman Peter DeFazio has donated his pay raises to a scholarship fund to help dislocated workers and returning veterans attend community college in his district (Lane, Linn-Benton, Southwestern Oregon, Rogue, and Umpqua community colleges). College Goal Oregon - Free Help with Financial Aid Applications
The new year signals the time of year when college-bound students and their parents will complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine eligibility for financial aid. The process can be daunting, but help is available on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at College Goal Oregon, a one-day event scheduled at 24 different sites in Oregon. Click here for more

Oregon Student Assistance Commission Receives Grant to help Students Access College
The Oregon Student Assistance Commission (OSAC) is the recipient of a $49,500 grant from the A. Ted and Doris E. Nelson Fund and the William Swindells, Sr. Memorial Fund of The Oregon Community Foundation for 21 partnership grants to support an ASPIRE site coordinator, for one year, at each of the 21 ASPIRE sites. Oregon Student Assistance Commission Receives Grant to Expand College Access Program
The Oregon Student Assistance Commission has received a three-year grant for $50,000 from the YMCA of the USA to continue College Goal Sunday in Oregon, a volunteerrun program that aims to connect youth and families with funding for college. This is part of a $5.1 million grant from Lumina Foundation for Education to support the integration and expansion of College Goal Sunday across the country. Click here for more

Oregon Opportunity Grant Adjusted for Spring Term
The increased demand for the grant exceeded the program’s budget, which required the Commission to reduce awards by $120 for students enrolled full time at 2- and 4-year Oregon colleges and $60 for students enrolled at least half time. The award reduction affects second semester and spring quarter students who applied by the August 15 deadline and received fall term awards before the December 15 disbursement deadline date. This reduction will affect up to 38,000 Oregon college students. Click here for more
